Parliament approved. The Government ignored. The money is there. The political will is not.
In Parliament, a unanimous motion means that all 21 members together have decided that something must be done. It is not just MEP. It is not just the opposition. It is the entire Parliament together. Even so, the AVP-Futuro government fails to execute the people’s mandate.
The fact that the AVP-Futuro government does not execute the motions is not due to a difference in political opinion. This is a fixed pattern of this government, which fails to provide respect, transparency, or clarity to its people.
Motion for more funds for justice The motion to provide more resources for justice and ensure that our police officers get their body cams was approved unanimously. However, to this day, not a single body cam. To this day, the police union itself has asked us in Parliament how this matter stands. They are asking because the government remains silent and provides no clarity on the issue.
Motion for oil industry exploration After January 3rd, when the situation changed in Venezuela, MEP made sure to introduce a motion urging the government to explore the possibility for Aruba to also benefit from this development. The motion was approved unanimously over eight months ago. To this day, the people themselves can see that there is no progress. There is no explanation. Pure silence.
The government has money, but for whom? It is important for the people to be aware that this government has 700 million florins in surplus. That means they have 700 million florins they can invest wherever you, as a voter, find it important. In addition to this, they have 291 million borrowed in New York, the 50 million borrowed from the Social Security Bank (SVb), the 42 million received from the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), and the 35 million from the Aruba Airport Authority (AAA). People, the money is there; what this government lacks is the will to use it for your benefit.
A government that ignores the decision of its own Parliament, the representatives of the people, is not governing its country. It is managing its own agenda. The question I ask the government is simple: if the money is there, if Parliament decided, if the people are waiting, why isn’t action being taken then?
