Dia di Rincon, ignite Bonaire’s April tourism performance

Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) reports that Bonaire welcomed a total of 15,411 stayover visitors in April 2023. In April 2019, 14,100 stayover visitors were recorded.  9% more stayover visitors have been recorded compared to April 2019. The island’s two largest source markets are the Dutch visitors 6,701 (43%) and 3,252 American visitors (21%). Our Dutch stayover visitors primarily traveled from the southern and northern regions of their home country. Whereas, most of our American stayover visitors visited from the following six states: Florida, New York, California, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Texas. Furthermore, 2,832 (18%) of all visitors to Bonaire came from neighboring island Curaçao.

Aruba also emerged as a prominent market for Bonaire, with 562 stayover visitors recorded in April, positioning Aruba as the fourth-best performing market last month. The island’s cultural festivities such as the Dia di Rincon played a significant role in attracting more visitors from the former Dutch Antilles, further enhancing the diverse range of tourists on the island.

Secondary markets, including Germany, Canada, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, maintained their market share in April 2023, similar to March 2023.

TCB constantly evaluates the state of the tourism industry by tracking key performance indicators and comparing them to the situation before the pandemic. 2019 is now serving as the barometer by which the island’s tourism is being measured.

Visitors from the United States stayed an average of seven nights while those from the Netherlands stayed an average of 14 nights. Furthermore, most Americans are middle-aged (55+), while most Dutch are 45+.

There were 29 cruise ships that visited Bonaire in March 2023, with a total of 67,625 passengers.
