Vice President of Parliament Muzaninne Wever with inhumane parliamentary session

Muzaninne Wever

The discussion of the national budget of Aruba has not yet begun, but from 9 a.m. until these early morning hours, the budgets of the Advisory Council, Ombudsman, General Audit Chamber, and Parliament are being discussed all in one go.
In the past, parliamentary sessions were known to be marathon meetings, but over the years this was changed so that sessions could take place during human hours, allowing decisions and budget votes to be made with clear and fresh minds.

However, today we again see that the vice faction leader of FUTURO does not take this into account, and at 2:30 a.m. the meeting to discuss the budgets of these institutions is still ongoing.
Just like last year, they want to push important meetings to the last minute, making the sessions inhumane — from 9 a.m. all the way into the dark hours of the night.
Besides everything, members of parliament are also human, and spending endless hours debating issues regarding important institutions of our country is not appropriate and certainly not humane.
And the people of Aruba cannot continue to follow such important meetings  where decisions and votes are made on their behalf  during the dark hours of the night.
