Member of Parliament Rocco Tjon: Two weeks of silence – Government and coalition in Parliament are deaf to the voice of 13 unions regarding the HOFA consensus Kingdom law

Rocco Tjon

This morning, the public parliamentary session will continue, during which the government will provide more information regarding the HOFA consensus Kingdom law.

13 UNIONS OPPOSE THE HOFA KINGDOM LAW
It has now been two weeks since 13 unions submitted a detailed position paper to Parliament, presenting legal, economic, and financial arguments clearly explaining why they oppose the law.
They warn that this law will undermine Aruba’s autonomy and limit the democracy of our people.

GOVERNMENT HAS NOT MET WITH THE UNIONS
Since the submission of the document, the AVP and Futuro parliamentary factions have not invited the unions to explain their position. Likewise, the government has not held any meeting with them up to this day.

This is unacceptable, especially since these unions represent thousands of workers — men and women who work every day to sustain our economy and keep the country running.
It is truly disrespectful that, on such an important issue, the government has failed to show basic respect to the unions.

SESSION CONTINUES THIS MORNING
This morning, the government and the AVP and Futuro factions must make clear whether they stand with the Netherlands or with Aruba.

More than 10,000 Arubans have already signed a petition opposing the Kingdom law.
Ten members of Parliament have publicly expressed their opposition, including Mike de Meza.
Even legal advisors and professors have indicated that the law is not good for Aruba.

Today, we will see whether the AVP and Futuro factions truly represent your voice.
