It is impossible for us to have peace if we respond to candlelight with candlelight, or negative words with negative words. This only creates tension and can lead to violence. That is the enemy’s plan to distract people from God’s purpose.
The first step in overcoming evil is forgiveness. We must let go of old grudges, pride, materialism, stop speaking badly about others (Ephesians 4:29-30), and be examples of peace and calmness. We should be a light in the darkness for those caught in negativity.
In every way, we must avoid jealousy and envy, not harm others, and not disturb others especially in our own households to maintain peace.
Jealousy has destroyed many friendships, marriages, and families. It is a tool the devil uses to create division everywhere. Sometimes, certain departments don’t function properly because of jealousy; colleagues against colleagues, siblings against siblings, or parents favoring one child over another. All these come from diabolical malice, meant to steal, kill, and destroy.
A quick-tempered person provokes conflict, but a patient person calms disputes (Proverbs 15:18).
A wicked person spreads evil, and their words are like fire (Proverbs 16:27). A malicious person sows strife and separates close friends (Proverbs 16:28). These are three tests to help us recognize what we must avoid: quarrels and disputes. God calls us to love one another, not to harm one another.
It is important that, as adults, we educate our children in the path of peace. Explain clearly that there is no gain in fighting, violence, or enmity only bitterness, which benefits no one.
If possible, live at peace with everyone (Romans 12:18). Keep this in mind: strive for peace and holiness, without which no one will see God (Hebrews 12:14).
Prudence helps a person not to be quick-tempered, and letting offenses pass glorifies God (Proverbs 19:11). Let your mind be fruitful and creative. Don’t dwell on words spoken to hurt you focus on God’s Word, which lifts you, gives you courage, and teaches perseverance.
Humility draws people closer to God. God values humility because humble people allow themselves to be used by Him. The rebellious always make excuses, feel tired, and claim they don’t have time to do what God asks, because the enemy manipulates their minds.
Our trust in God helps us overcome every obstacle and the enemy’s traps, because the enemy wants people to live in the past, to refuse forgiveness, to discriminate, and to be easily angered. That is his role, because he knows that an angry and bitter heart cannot function or worship properly, and cannot have true communion with God.
In our hearts, there is no room for anger, hatred, or violence. All of these disrupt the proper functioning of our hearts. Many people become evil because their hearts are heavy, their minds are tired, and they have no peace.
Overcome evil with good today.
