The MAN-PIN faction in the Parliament of Curaçao has officially submitted the Paternity Leave Law (Ley di Verlof pa Tata), which is now ready to be debated in Parliament. With this proposal, MAN-PIN aims to introduce a legal right for fathers to also receive paid leave after the birth of their child.
This initiative represents an important step in strengthening the family, promoting equality between men and women, and ensuring the well-being of the child from the very first days of life, while also marking an advancement in labor rights. Currently, many fathers in Curaçao have no legal right to stay home after the birth of their child, and they often have to use vacation days or continue working during a very important time for the family.
With this law, MAN-PIN wants to change this and bring Curaçao more in line with modern labor and human developments. The law proposes that employees be entitled to paid Paternity Leave, which will be determined based on the number of hours the employee works per week.
The law also takes into account the financial sustainability of the social security system and the reality of the labor market in Curaçao. According to the MAN-PIN faction, the initiative is not just about a labor benefit, but rather an investment in human development, mental health, family stability, and the future of our children.
The MAN-PIN faction hopes that Parliament will treat this law with the seriousness that the topic deserves and that Curaçao will finally give legal recognition to the important role of the father in the family. A strong family begins with presence, love, and shared responsibility.
