In the public debate regarding the management of politician Mike de Meza and his advisors, political critic Ryçond Santos do Nascimento has put forward a detailed analysis of how this case is being handled in the community.
According to Santos do Nascimento, many people try to accuse the director of DIMP, but in reality, the civil servant simply did his job correctly. He emphasizes that this is a legal obligation. He explains that within the strategy surrounding this case, there is an attempt to manipulate political perception and shift community thinking.
More importantly, according to Santos do Nascimento, is the legal aspect related to the tax authorities (Belastingdienst) and the Public Prosecution Service. When the tax authorities encounter a violation of Article 68 of the National Ordinance on Income Tax (Landsverordening op de inkomstenbelasting), they have a strict obligation to report it.
If a tax official working in the tax field encounters an infraction that carries a prison sentence, they have a legal obligation to report it to the Public Prosecution Service as a superior, in accordance with the Penal Code. If they fail to do so, the official commits an infraction themselves. Although screening is a process that involves investigation, once that investigation encounters a violation of Article 68, the reporting obligation remains in effect without exception.
