At the Request of the Prosecutor: Case of rape of one woman and Blackmail of two women postponed

Black Mail

This morning, the Court of Justice did not proceed with the handling of the criminal case initiated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office against the man E. (29). This followed a request by the prosecutor to postpone the case pending further investigation in the Netherlands.

It is understood that the man E. is accused of raping one woman and blackmailing two women. The judge postponed the case because the investigation in the Netherlands is considered very important.

RAPE OF ONE WOMAN AND BLACKMAIL OF TWO WOMEN

Present in the courtroom was one of the blackmail victims, Ms. T., who was accompanied by her family and attorney, Mr. Gravenstijn. Also present were the parents of the suspect, E.

The judge stated that the case began last year and that there are two charges against E. The first charge concerns the alleged rape of Ms. S. in Curaçao in 2014. The second charge involves the alleged blackmail of Ms. B. and Ms. T. between January 1, 2015, and 2023, through threats to commit certain acts or publish information about them. There is also an accusation that in January 2023, E. hacked Ms. T. in the Netherlands.

The judge further explained that a statement from the victim, Ms. S., was recently obtained. There is also a psychiatrist’s report concerning E. Ms. T. has filed a civil claim for damages. Ms. S., upon learning that E. had been arrested in Aruba, subsequently filed a complaint against him.

The judge explained that a new development had occurred in the case, whereby the prosecutor recently requested via email to both the judge and E.’s attorney, Mr. Illes, to postpone the case in order to conduct further investigation. Defense attorney Mr. Illes opposed this request.

PROSECUTOR REQUESTS FURTHER INVESTIGATION

In court, it was noted that two prosecutors are handling this case. One prosecutor explained that the reason for requesting the postponement is that the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI) is conducting a voice analysis on telephone recordings to determine whether it is indeed the accused, E. E. denies having made the calls. According to the NFI, the investigation will take approximately four weeks to complete.

The prosecutor stated that the results of the NFI investigation are important for both the prosecution and the defense. When asked by the judge when the case could be heard again, the prosecutor suggested the end of February 2026. The judge indicated that at the end of February 2026, a major case is already scheduled, and attorney Mr. Illes is also involved in that case. The judge then suggested March. The prosecutor proposed March 20, 2026, at 8:30 a.m.

Defense attorney Mr. Illes stated that if the case is postponed, he requests that E. be released under specific conditions so that a psychiatrist can treat him. The attorney stated that E. has mental health issues requiring treatment.

The prosecutor opposed releasing E. for treatment, stating that this is a very serious case with compelling reasons for continued detention. He noted that the postponement is within a reasonable timeframe of two months.

CASE POSTPONED

The judge stated that he approves the investigation, as it is important to determine whether it was indeed E. who spoke on the phone, especially given the seriousness of the statements made.

The judge rejected the request of defense attorney Mr. Illes. In the judge’s opinion, the accusations are extremely serious: rape and blackmail of two women. The judge emphasized that E. had previously been released, but at that time committed another offense. It was determined that the case will be heard on March 20, 2026.
