The Buki di Pret Foundation officially launched the sixth edition of its popular holiday book today. The first copy was presented to the well-known Aruban entertainer and content creator Tarrick Ras at Sacred Heart School in Savaneta. Immediately afterward, the school’s students also received their own copies. This marked the beginning of the annual distribution of Buki di Pret to all primary school students in Aruba.
More than just a vacation book
What began six years ago as an initiative to offer recreational activities to children during the summer holidays has become an island-wide program that reaches thousands of children each year. This year, the approximately 9,000 students in Aruba’s primary schools will also receive a free copy of Buki di Pret.
More pages and more activities than ever before!
The new edition has 104 pages and contains 112 free or low-cost activities and offers, distributed across the familiar categories of flora and fauna, arts and crafts, fun and games, sports, education, and food and drinks. The goal remains the same: to motivate children to stay active, discover new experiences, and develop their talents.
New stickers for active participants
One of this year’s new features is the Buki di Pret sticker program. Children can collect stickers during participating activities and thus literally capture their vacation in their own personal book. The stickers make participation even more fun and encourage children to try different activities.
Improved Booking System
Due to the growing popularity of Buki di Pret and the increased demand for activities, the previous booking system no longer adequately met the needs and expectations of parents and participants. Therefore, this year Buki di Pret implemented a revamped booking system. The most popular activities can now be easily booked online. In addition, waiting lists have been added, and participants will receive automatic reminders via WhatsApp. With these improvements, the foundation aims to make the registration process clearer and more organized, and ensure that available spaces are used efficiently.
Special attention for children in vulnerable situations
As in previous years, Buki di Pret also organizes special holiday programs for
children who, due to various circumstances, don’t always have the opportunity to participate in activities.
In collaboration with various community centers, social organizations, and volunteers, these children are picked up in their own neighborhoods and taken on excursions and special activities in different locations on the island. “We believe that all children have the right to enjoy a fun, active, and inspiring holiday,” stated the founder and driving force behind the initiative, Kitty van der Knaap. “Not all families have the same opportunities, but thanks to the support of our partners and collaborators, we can ensure that as many children as possible experience new things, have fun, and discover their talents.”
