Dutch climate and social justice group presented on climate at IPKO

Oriana Wouters 2

During the IPKO meeting, Oriana Wouters, representative of the Dutch Climate and Social Justice Group, gave a presentation focused on the climate and environmental situation in Aruba.

The informal group was invited to share its perspective from a local point of view. According to Wouters, during her intervention she received many questions from parliamentarians, which she interpreted as a positive sign of interest and concern regarding the seriousness of the environmental situation in Aruba.

Wouters indicated that Aruba currently has access to instruments such as the Rechtcultuur Fonds, which provides opportunities to develop climate adaptation projects. However, she emphasized that there is a need for greater participation, both from young people and local experts, in environmental policy development.

According to the representative, more and more young people in Aruba are showing interest in climate and nature protection. She underlined that the current momentum is important to expand collaboration between the countries within the Kingdom and to strengthen Aruba’s participation in decision-making related to climate change.
