Thanks to the vigilance and control of KIA staff, authorities have managed to detect and thwart an attempt to smuggle drugs into KIA. The Minister of Justice, Mr. Arthur Dowers, labeled any attempt to introduce drugs or other prohibited items into KIA as unacceptable and emphasized that actions endangering prison security will not be tolerated.

The Minister of Justice indicated that this specific case is under investigation. During a routine delivery of ice to KIA, prison authorities noted suspicious behavior by staff from the company responsible for the ice delivery.

Minister Dowers praised the vigilance of the KIA employees who detected the suspicious movement and acted without hesitation. According to the Minister, the case shows precisely why strict control and constant vigilance are necessary within an institution like KIA.

Introducing drugs into prison is completely unacceptable. It does not matter if the attempt comes from outside or if people from inside are involved. Everyone entering KIA must understand that there are rules and controls that must be respected.

The investigation continues to determine if more people are involved in the case and if the attempt to smuggle drugs is part of a larger activity. If the investigation shows that others are involved, the relevant authority will act in accordance with the law and applicable regulations.

In addition to drugs, authorities are paying attention to contraband in prison, including cell phones and other prohibited items. Any attempt to smuggle contraband into KIA directly affects order and security within the institution and will receive the necessary attention from authorities.

Minister Dowers indicated that it is unacceptable for persons with access to KIA—whether for work, deliveries, or any other service—to use that access to attempt to smuggle prohibited items.

This case demonstrates that control and vigilance yield results, but also that authorities must remain alert to prevent drugs, cell phones, and other contraband from entering the prison.
