After a total of 6 lessons covering various topics such as an introduction to Olympism, Sports Structure and Organization, and the Role of the President, the first module of the “Sports Administration Course” (SAC) has concluded. A total of 38 people successfully completed this course, demonstrating that there is a large group of sports leaders who wish to gain more knowledge in order to elevate the level of management within their organizations.
At the end of this final lesson, the official certificate presentation took place. These certificates are awarded on behalf of not only the Aruban Olympic Committee (COA) but also Olympic Solidarity, which makes these lessons possible through the resources they provide to fund the course. After presenting all participants with their certificates, a moment was taken to thank Mr. Dave Martinus, who taught 3 of the workshops focusing on the role of the president, in addition to being involved in various courses given by COA over recent years. Dave received some special gifts, including a shoco (the Aruban burrowing owl), which is a symbol of intelligence, as a token of appreciation for his willingness to share his knowledge with our sports leaders.
COA is highly satisfied with the turnout and the participation of all the students, who showed great interest in wanting to learn and apply this new knowledge to elevate the level of sports in Aruba. A word of thanks goes out to all participants, instructors, and to Monica Pimentel and Patrick Werleman, who spearhead this project through COA’s Development Directorate.
