The Carnival season in Aruba, although shorter this year, managed to maintain the unique atmosphere and cultural energy that characterize the largest celebration of our island. Despite discussions and organizational challenges present during the season, large crowds turned out to support and enjoy the parades, showing that Carnival remains an important pillar of Aruban identity.
Carnival almost never passes without controversy. Every year there are debates about organization, planning, and various decisions. This year was no exception. However, as often happens, the performances on the road ultimately dominated the public conversation. Groups presented elaborate themes, colorful costumes, and impactful choreography, confirming that creativity and dedication continue to be present in the celebration.
One of the most notable aspects this year was the debut of a new group: Hepa DMC Society. Entering a competition where many experienced groups already have their established positions, expectations were high. Participating in Carnival for the first time is no easy task, as the level of competition is demanding and the public is critical.
Nevertheless, Hepa DMC Society managed to stand out in its first appearance. The group delivered a structured and visually appealing show, demonstrating serious preparation and attention to detail. The quality of their presentation not only earned public appreciation, but also resulted in a prize — a significant achievement for a group that has just entered the Carnival arena.
Although it is premature to determine how the group will develop in the future, their strong start indicates that there is room for innovation and renewal within Aruba’s Carnival. The appearance of new groups is essential to maintain healthy competition and to stimulate creativity within the celebration.
With its successful first appearance, Hepa DMC Society has taken a firm step within the Carnival community, bringing new energy to a tradition that forms an integral part of Aruban culture.
