During the year 2025, the total number of registered criminal suspects (misdrijf) decreased by 15%, reaching a total of 1,944 suspects (compared to 2,280 in 2024). According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office (Openbaar Ministerie – OM), this decline could be due to fewer crimes being committed, direct interventions, or a reduction in investigative capacity. In contrast, the number of suspects who had to be brought before the prosecutor (voorgeleiding) rose by 21%.
The top 10 most committed offenses in Aruba continue to be dominated by traffic violations. “Driving a car without a valid inspection certificate” (corefles – 2,055 cases) and “driving under the influence of alcohol” (454 cases) top the list. A highly concerning point highlighted by the OM is that “illegal possession of a firearm” (86 cases) has re-entered the top 10, particularly among minors and young adults, which demands special attention and a comprehensive strategy to combat it. In the narcotics area, the Drug Unit of the Aruba Police Force (KPA) intercepted and destroyed more than 74 kilograms of cocaine and 541 kilograms of marijuana.
