Arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol

Over the past weekend, police arrested two (2) drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol.

*Wednesday, August 12, around 3:00 a.m.: A 32-year-old man with initials F.G.R.d.R. was arrested on Kaya Grandi. A patrol stopped the suspect after observing him swerving on his scooter across the road. During the check, he could not show a driver’s license or insurance documents, nor could he identify himself. Due to his driving behavior, a breath test was administered, revealing that he had consumed more alcohol than legally permitted. After several attempts, the suspect refused to properly complete the breath analysis. Because he was not in a condition to give a statement, he was taken to the JICN. He will receive an official report (prosèsferbal) and his driver’s license will be confiscated.

*Wednesday, August 12, around 2:30 a.m.: A 20-year-old man with initials G.F.v.B. was arrested in the city center (centrumgebied). A patrol stopped the suspect for a check after seeing him driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street. During the control, the suspect showed various signs of being under the influence of alcohol. A breath test was conducted, showing he had consumed more alcohol than legally allowed. He received a 5-hour driving ban and a fine for driving in the wrong direction. Additionally, he will receive an official report and was transported to the police station to continue with the corresponding procedures.

Traffic controls

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 12, traffic controls were held at various locations, stopping and checking thirteen (13) vehicles. During the operation, two people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and nine (9) fines were issued.

The fines were issued for the following violations:
6x for driving without a license or failing to show it.

2x for driving without valid insurance.

1x for driving in the wrong direction.

Traffic checks will continue.

Accident between a scooter and a car
On Tuesday, August 11, around 4:00 p.m., the central emergency room (meldkamer) received a notification about an accident between a scooter and a car near Kaya Kanari and Kaya Thomas M. Marchena. An ambulance transported the scooter rider to the hospital for medical treatment. In accordance with the “crash is breath” (botsen is blazen) policy, a breath test was administered to the car driver, and there was no indication of alcohol use. Due to medical priority, a breath test could not be performed on the scooter rider.

Arrest following a street fight
On Tuesday, August 11, around 2:35 p.m., the central emergency room received a notification regarding a fight between two individuals on Kaya Krabe. At the intersection with Kaya Falkon, police encountered several people and found that two women were involved in a street brawl. One of the women sustained injuries and received medical treatment from ambulance personnel. At the scene, around 2:45 p.m., the 41-year-old woman with initials J.L.W. was arrested for assault. The investigation into the case is ongoing.

Suspected narcotics found during a traffic control
On Tuesday, August 11, around 3:50 a.m., police pulled over a car for a routine check on Kaya Korona. During the inspection, officers smelled a strong odor resembling narcotic substances, prompting a search under the BES Opium Act (Lei di Opio BES). A small amount of suspected narcotic substances was found and confiscated. Additionally, the driver received a driving ban on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotic substances.

On Tuesday, August 11, around 2:00 a.m., the central emergency room received a notification about a man causing a disturbance at a catering establishment on Kaya Korona. Police arrived at the scene and encountered the man. During the check, a small amount of suspected narcotic substances was found and confiscated.

Shooting incident with injuries
On Monday, August 10, around 10:45 p.m., the central emergency room received a notification about a shooting incident with injuries on Kaya Kuarta. Unknown individuals drove by and fired shots at a house, after which the suspects fled the scene. Two people and a dog were injured by gunfire. An ambulance transported both victims to the hospital for medical treatment. The dog died as a result of its injuries.

Around 10:55 p.m., a notification came in concerning an explosion and a burning car on Kaminda Lac. Upon the arrival of the fire department, it turned out to be a burning pickup truck. The fire department extinguished the blaze. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

Speed control on Kaminda Tras di Montaña
On Monday, August 10, around 12:50 p.m., police conducted a speed check on Kaminda Tras di Montaña. During the control, ten vehicles were checked, and two drivers received fines for exceeding the maximum permitted speed.

The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) reminds road users to adhere to permitted speed limits. In Bonaire, unless otherwise indicated, any motor vehicle is allowed to drive at a maximum speed of 40 km/h in built-up areas (bebouwde kom) and 60 km/h outside of them. Police will continue conducting speed checks for the safety of all road users.

Accident on Bulevar Gobernador N. Debrot
On Friday, August 7, around 12:00 noon, the central emergency room received a notification about an accident between two cars on Bulevar Gobernador N. Debrot. Statements revealed that one of the drivers attempted to pass the other vehicle while it was turning, causing them to collide. The driver who attempted to overtake did not have a driver’s license and was fined for this offense. The other driver sustained injuries, and ambulance personnel provided medical treatment right at the scene.

Scooter theft
On Friday, August 7, a report was filed regarding the theft of a white and black scooter, Sym brand, model X-PRO MI, with license plate MF-343. The scooter was parked in front of an apartment complex on Kaya P.N. Antonio Neuman. The case is currently under investigation.
