In an intervention in Parliament, Eduard Pieters, leader of the PPA faction, expressed his rejection and concerns regarding the procedures used to process Kingdom Acts (Rijkswetten) and the management of public funds.
Concerns regarding the funds and Kingdom Act (Rijkswet) Mr. Pieters highlighted several reasons why his faction cannot support the investment fund. Among others, he brought forward the following points:
• Lack of legal basis: According to Mr. Pieters, there is no solid legal basis for the decisions being made in the investment fund, and he questioned the procedure used for the Rijkswet regarding the main lines (Hoofdlijnen) and the operation of the fund.
• Interference with the Constitution: The parliamentarian expressed concern that the management of funds based on the Rijkswet constitutes direct interference with our Constitution.
• Request for clarity: Mr. Pieters recalled that he requested a repetition and a report from the General Audit Chamber (Algemene Rekenkamer) to be able to analyze this investment fund law in a more transparent manner.
Mr. Pieters concluded by stating that the PPA is not convinced that the investment fund complies with due standards and that they maintain their critical stance against the procedures being pursued by Minister Geoffrey Wever, which they view as conflicting with the Constitution and the Statute of the Country of Aruba.
