The reinauguration of the monument dedicated to the memory of fallen fishermen is being regarded as an initiative of great value and significance for the community. The project was originally launched in 2013 as an initiative of Otmar Oduber and has now been resumed and completed thanks to the commitment of Minister Wendrick Cecilia, who led the process to reinaugurate the monument.
The reinauguration ceremony not only marked an important symbolic moment, but also conveyed a message of recognition and support to all families who have lost a loved one at sea. Through the reinauguration, families now have a dignified place where they can honor the memory of their loved ones and find moments of comfort and reflection.
PPA parliamentary faction leader, Member of Parliament Eduard Pieters, was present at the event and expressed his appreciation for the initiative. According to Pieters, the Government of Aruba demonstrated leadership and sensitivity by making the decision to reinaugurate such a special monument. He emphasized that this action provides emotional support to the affected families and contributes to a collective healing process.
Pieters concluded that the reinauguration is a meaningful and necessary initiative by Minister Wendrick Cecilia, reaffirming the importance of remembrance, respect, and recognition for the sacrifice of fallen fishermen and their families, as well as acknowledging Otmar Oduber as the originator of this historic monument, which holds deep significance for many families who lost loved ones at sea.
