Dominique Lopez handed over her thesis to librarian Mrs. Yosmar Sneek this morning. It is titled ‘Shadows in Paradise: a qualitative study investigating social factors contributing to juvenile delinquency in Aruba’ and is the result of an investigation. Dominique published her thesis as part of her Bachelor of Arts degree (Class of 2023) at Maastricht University, and the topic focuses on the factors contributing to juvenile delinquency in Aruba. The thesis will become part of the National Collection of the National Library of Aruba (Biblioteca Nacional Aruba), in both physical and digital formats.
Dominique dedicated the thesis to her parents, Mrs. Marisol Tromp and Mr. Edsel Lopez. For this research, Dominique consulted and worked together with 5 organizations in Aruba that deal with children and youth, such as the Orthopedagogic Center of Aruba (Orthopedagogisch Centrum Aruba), the Police Force of Aruba (Korps Politie Aruba), the Probation and Child Protection Foundation (Stichting Reclassering en Jeugdbescherming Aruba), the Juvenile and Sex Crimes Police (Jeugd en Zeden Politie), and the Correctional Institution of Aruba (Korrektie Instituut Aruba – KIA).
Dominique graduated with a Master of Science in Strategic Corporate Finance from Maastricht University, School of Business and Economics. Her thesis topic then was ‘Supervisory level commercial bank portfolio optimization’. Currently, Dominique is studying for her PhD in Finance.
