The group of sports executives attending the “Sports Administration Course,” organized by the development department of the Aruban Olympic Committee (COA), continued their classes last night at the University of Aruba. Following a first lesson that covered the Olympic Movement, this session focused on governance and organization in sports.
The second session was conducted by Patrick Werleman, the director of development at COA. The development department oversees the areas of capacity building, legal affairs, and governance. For this session, a strong emphasis was placed on the key organizations within the sporting environment in Aruba, in addition to addressing the legal aspects of sports associations and bylaws. Finally, several important articles of the “Civil Code Book 2” (Burgerlijk Wetboek Book 2) applicable to all sports associations and foundations were reviewed.
The participating executives showed great interest and actively engaged in all group assignments, applying the presented concepts to the actual situations of their respective federations or clubs. The dialogue brought forth many interesting ideas and demonstrated that the group is highly motivated to work towards the well-being of sports in Aruba.
COA expresses its gratitude to Patrick for this informative course, which has certainly contributed valuable knowledge to the sports executives. The next session will take place next Tuesday, where the structure of sports organizations and much more will be discussed in greater depth.
