Cas di Cultura proudly announces that Memoria Ancestral, the powerful locally produced documentary exploring the island’s deep cultural and historical roots, has been officially selected to screen at the prestigious Caribbean Film Festival, taking place June 11–15 in Trinidad & Tobago.
This selection marks yet another milestone for the documentary, which has already sparked meaningful conversations about heritage, memory, and identity across the region. The Caribbean Film Festival is known for spotlighting authentic Caribbean stories and voices, making it a perfect platform for Memoria Ancestral to continue its impactful journey.
Commissioned by Cas di Cultura and created by artists Natusha Croes, Layzima Emerencia, and Darwin Winklaar, Memoria Ancestral is a multidisciplinary production that delves into the lasting influence of colonialism, particularly the Afro-Indigenous enslavement that shaped Aruba’s history. Developed in collaboration with Aruban institutions, scholars, and experience experts, Memoria Ancestral delves into the intergenerational transmission of culture, oral history, and the resilience of Caribbean identity. Its inclusion in this festival highlights the growing recognition of Aruban storytelling on the international stage.
The team is honored and thrilled to see Memoria Ancestral continue its journey beyond Aruba. Being featured at the Caribbean Film Festival means Aruban stories are resonating, our history is being seen, and our voices are being heard throughout the region.
The screening in Trinidad & Tobago presents a unique opportunity to engage with fellow Caribbean creatives, build cultural bridges, and strengthen the visibility of Aruban arts within the wider diaspora.
Cas di Cultura congratulates the entire team behind Memoria Ancestral and invites the community to follow updates as the film travels and continues to inspire.
Memoria Ancestral was also selected for viewing at the Curaçao International Film Festival, 9-13 of April.
