This week marks the start of the Climate Adaptation Survey Curaçao 2025, a collaboration between the University of Curaçao (UoC) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU).
The survey is part of the international research program Climate Adaptation Options Project, coordinated by the International Panel on Deltas and Coastal Areas (IPDC) Dutch Caribbean).
The goal of the study is to gain a better understanding of how people in Curaçao experience the effects of climate change — such as heat, heavy rainfall, storms, and sea level rise — and what they believe is needed to make the island more resilient in the future. The findings will contribute to the National Climate Adaptation Strategy for Curaçao.
Interviews will be conducted by specially trained students from the University of Curaçao, supervised by the independent research agency RE-Quest.
From October 25 to 31, the interviewers will be present at various public locations — including supermarkets and hardware stores — conducting short ten-minute conversations with residents.
All collected data will be handled strictly confidentially and anonymously, and the results will be published only in aggregated form in a public report.
The research team calls on the public to participate when approached:
“Everyone who takes a few minutes to answer the survey helps Curaçao become more resilient to the effects of climate change,”
said the research team.
