Minister Tackling Secures Military Assistance to Strengthen Public Security

Minister Nathalie Tackling

The Ministry of Justice of St. Maarten has confirmed that the formal request by Minister Nathalie Tackling for military assistance has been officially approved. With immediate effect, marines stationed in St. Maarten will provide support to the St. Maarten Police Force (KPSM) to maintain public order and strengthen security in key areas.

The request was initiated on November 7, 2025, as part of measures to reinforce security, especially following several armed robberies and growing concerns about public safety. The marines will operate jointly with the police in combined patrols and traffic control, with the goal of increasing law enforcement presence, preventing crime, and reassuring residents, business owners, and visitors.

Minister Tackling stated that the deployment reflects a firm focus on public safety, reaffirming that protecting the community is a top priority.

The military support will remain in effect throughout the Christmas period, with a daily deployment of eight (8) marines operating jointly with KPSM. An evaluation will follow to determine the next steps.
