In a recent intervention in Parliament, PPA faction leader Mr. Eduard Pieters raised concerns regarding the procedures and legal basis being used to make decisions in the chamber.
Mr. Pieters began his statement by emphasizing that his intervention was based strictly on what his colleague, Munzannine Wever, had previously brought forward. The parliamentarian focused his criticism on the application of paragraph 4, which deals with the “main lines and operation of the fund” (hoofdlijnen en werking van het fonds).
Absence of a consensus Kingdom Act (consensus Rijkswet) Mr. Pieters’ main point is based on the lack of a consensus Kingdom Act. According to the parliamentarian, because there is no consensus Kingdom Act, there is no legal basis for the decisions being made.
Pieters addressed the President of Parliament, Marlon Sneek: “Mr. President, if we do not have a consensus Kingdom Act, you cannot speak of the previous consensus Kingdom Act.” He emphasized that his point of order revolved around the fact that if there is no consensus Kingdom Act, the law is not in force. Mr. Pieters concluded his intervention by stating that for this reason, the decisions being made, in his view, lack the necessary legal basis.
However, the President of Parliament revoked his right to speak and turned off the microphone while the PPA faction leader was still speaking.
