One shot, great protection
The Department of Public Health (DVG) informs that the influenza vaccine for the 2026-2027 season has arrived in Aruba and is available for individuals belonging to a high-risk group as well as for those who wish to purchase it.
Influenza is more than just a simple cold. The virus can cause serious complications and even hospitalization, especially among more vulnerable individuals. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of becoming severely ill as a result of the flu.
Starting Monday, September 14, 2026, individuals who belong to one of the high-risk groups listed below can get vaccinated at the Infectious Diseases Section, located at Avicenastraat 1, in the afternoon between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
The groups eligible for free vaccination are:
*Individuals aged 60 or older;
*Adults between 18 and 59 years old who belong to a medical risk group;
*Adults and children belonging to a high medical risk group, for example, individuals with severe immune system disorders;
*Individuals who, due to their medical condition or treatment, have received a recommendation from their general practitioner, specialist, or pediatrician to get vaccinated;
*Pregnant women who meet the medical criteria for vaccination;
*Healthcare workers who have direct contact with patients, especially vulnerable patients.
Individuals aged 60 or older must bring their AZV card to receive the free vaccine. People who belong to a risk group but are not yet 60 years old must bring their AZV card and a prescription from their general practitioner or specialist.
For those who wish to purchase the vaccine, the cost is Afl. 20.-, which can be done between 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Upon purchase, a valid ID must be presented, and payment is strictly card only (swipe).
Preparations are underway to, as every year, offer the vaccine in various neighborhoods across Aruba. As soon as the schedule is fully finalized, DVG will publish the dates, times, and locations where the mobile vaccination unit will stop.
DVG advises everyone in a risk group to get vaccinated on time.
