The Department of Public Health (DVG) informs the community that, according to data registered in its health surveillance system, an increase in fever cases accompanied by respiratory symptoms and flu-like illness is being observed. Cases of influenza type B are also being registered. On social media, various citizens can also be seen sharing that there is a flu outbreak causing severe illness.
Protect the most vulnerable
DVG encourages the community, especially groups at higher risk of complications, to practice preventive measures. These are:
Adults aged 60 and older.
Young children under 5 years old.
Pregnant women.
Individuals with chronic diseases or conditions that may weaken their immune system.
For these groups, it is recommended to wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer, avoid close contact with sick individuals, continue taking prescribed medications, and consider getting the influenza vaccine.
The influenza vaccine is already available at DVG’s Infectious Diseases Section. For more information regarding vaccination, please call 522-4200.
If you are sick, protect others
If you have a fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, fatigue, or other flu symptoms, stay home and limit contact with others while you are sick. Avoid visiting vulnerable individuals and avoid crowded places.
Cough or sneeze into your elbow, wash your hands frequently, and ensure good ventilation at home. Drink plenty of fluids and get adequate rest.
Do not use antibiotics on your own, as antibiotics do not work against viruses like influenza. Only use medications as directed by your physician or specialist.
Contact your family doctor if your symptoms worsen, if the fever persists, or if you are concerned about your health condition. Seek urgent medical assistance if you experience difficulty breathing, severe chest pain or pressure, confusion, severe weakness, or other signs of rapid deterioration.
Preventing the spread of respiratory illnesses is a shared responsibility. If you are sick, stay home. Take care of yourself and protect others.
