The annual Barracuda Warrior military exercise starts again. From January 26th to February 6th, various military units from the Caribbean will converge on Curaçao. The goal of the exercise is to strengthen cooperation between the various units, which are typically stationed on different islands. Over 180 military personnel will participate in this exercise.
Activities during Barracuda Warrior take place at the Wacao Defense Training Ground, Koraal Tabak, the former hospital in Otrobanda and the Playa Kanoa area. The training consists of various components, such as operations at sea and on land, operations in built-up areas, artillery exercises, and simulations of planned and unplanned attacks. The soldiers train both during the day and at night.
More than 180 soldiers are participating in Exercise Barracuda Warrior. They represent the Marine Squadron Carib from Aruba, the Marine Corps Detachment Sint Maarten, the Boat Platoon from Curaçao, units of the Army, and Curaçaoan soldiers. Curaçaoan soldiers are increasingly participating in large-scale military exercises as part of the ongoing professionalization of the Caribbean military.
Barracuda Warrior remains a crucial annual military exercise to enhance readiness and connectivity between units in the Caribbean. This contributes to maintaining peace and security in the Caribbean Region.
