Aruba Airport Authority N.V.’s (AAA) Wings of Hope (WoH) team recently partnered up with Colegio Santa Filomena in San Nicolas as part of Aruba DOET 2025 on Friday May 16, 2025.
Aruba DOET is the biggest yearly volunteer event in Aruba. Each year, Wings of Hope participates in Aruba DOET and selects a project based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), AAA’s goals and the contribution and impact on the Aruban community.
This year WoH selected the refurbishment of the playground for children at Colegio Santa Filomena in San Nicolas and participated with a total of 12 volunteers. After visiting the playground, it became clear for the WoH team that it was an opportunity to make a much bigger impact for the school. AAA Wings of Hope reached out to our partner Arubaanse Wegenbouw Maatschappij (AWM) who will be cleaning and renovating the playground and will also be installing new equipment, shade and playground fence to ensure children can play safely in that area. The paint supplier Sherwin Williams (SW) donated paint to be used to paint the entire school facade, benches, and poles, so the school can have a fresh, colorful and inviting look. AAA Wings of Hope and Colegio Santa Filomena volunteers additionally painted a bicycle path on the main school playground to encourage the school children to ride their bicycles but also to learn traffic rules while doing so. Additionally, AAA donated various sporting equipment to promote physical activity by students during breaks.
AAA Wings of Hope team would like to thank each volunteer, partner and Colegio Santa Filomena for the opportunity to give back in a way that will surely benefit the school children’s development, education, and enjoyment.
