Case against parliamentarian Mike de Meza has been closed

Desiree Croes

After a year and a half of challenges and stress, the truth has come to light. Attorney Desiree Croes held a press conference at Culture Café in San Nicolas, accompanied by family members and supporters of Mike de Meza, to officially announce that the case against parliamentarian Mike de Meza has been closed and that he is fully eligible to hold a ministerial position.

For many months, the process was heavy and stressful, involving multiple court appearances and constant challenges. In the first phase, the Public Prosecution Service proposed a transaction that meant a fine of 5,000 florins and required Mike de Meza to take the blame. This was a proposal that Mike de Meza and his defense considered totally unacceptable, as he knew he was completely innocent.

A request was submitted to the court and was ready for review on August 24. However, something very unusual happened. A day prior, an invitation arrived for a second meeting (“tomset”), which according to attorney Desiree Croes does not normally happen.

During this new meeting, the official indicated that the situation was different and delivered a critically important message: “no blame needs to be taken.” This meant the document contained no offset or guilt whatsoever.

The final agreement was signed on a reduced transaction directed to the Members of Justice, where Mike de Meza pays only half of the original amount, specifically a fine of 2,500 florins.

With this step, this difficult chapter is left behind, and the path is completely open for Mike de Meza. It was a moment of joy for all his campaigners and family members who filled the room.
