Emotive Delirium Dimanche-Jolie (Aruba, 2004) Dimanche-Jolie is an emerging artist born in Aruba in 2004. She was self-taught until the age of 13, when she joined Ateliers ’89 and began a seven-year journey exploring various disciplines—painting, ceramics, fashion, film, drawing, and mixed media—through experimental workshops. This formative experience shaped her transdisciplinary sensitivity, which defines her artistic voice today.
For Dimanche, drawing is the structural root of all visual expression, while poetry serves as the seed of conceptual, musical, and narrative development. The exhibition ‘Emotive Delirium’ is the culmination of her artistic research project titled ‘The Decomposition of the Trout, a symbolic exploration of how art shapes our emotional lives and how the self-imposed rules we live by often disconnect us from our essential nature’.
Through nine paintings, a musical poem collection, and a performative installation, Dimanche invites us into a poetics of emotion that flows through image, body, and sound. Her works present a universe where symbols become bodies and bodies become metaphors. Buried figures with exposed brains symbolize beings trapped in thought, like seeds unable to sprout. Pale, humanoid creatures with plants sprouting from their heads drift aimlessly, guided by unseen forces. Skeletons with still-beating hearts run stripped of flesh, evoking love that consumes to the bone. Other figures—with eye-shaped heads in yellowish tones—embody a more conscious search, acting as lucid witnesses within the emotional landscape around them. The repetition of visual elements creates a symbolic language, forming a personal mythology that traverses interior deserts, jungles, rivers, and memory-mountains. Each piece offers a fragment of a non-linear narrative that speaks to the viewer not through logic, but through emotional resonance.
‘Emotive Delirium’ does not seek answers or offer certainty. It proposes an immersive experience to be felt with an open heart and skin, where emotions bloom like sensitive antennas. In a world where rationality tries to dominate even the most intimate parts of ourselves, Dimanche-Jolie reclaims the right to feel, to inhabit delirium, to transform pain into symbol—and symbols into bridges. In her work, art is not only a companion: it transforms, it moves… and it heals
