Prime Minister Mr. Mike Eman expressed his satisfaction that, after a long and complex process, clarity has finally been reached in the case that for nearly two years kept Ing. Mike de Meza and his family in a period of uncertainty.
According to Prime Minister Eman, the outcome marked the conclusion of a difficult chapter, both for the individual involved and for the Government and our country. “This is an important moment. There is finally clarity in a process that lasted a long time and created a lot of uncertainty. As a Government, we are relieved that this chapter can close,” Prime Minister Mike Eman declared during an extraordinary press conference on Tuesday night.
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for the way Mike de Meza faced the process with dignity, perseverance, and respect for state institutions. He highlighted that the impact of the situation was not limited solely to colleague De Meza, but that his family also bore the weight of the process for the past nearly two years. “When a person’s good name is called into question, it has a profound impact, not only on the person themselves, but also on their family. He deserves recognition for the way he has faced this entire situation,” the Prime Minister indicated.
At this time, Mike de Meza has communicated that he wants to take a few additional days to reflect before making a definitive decision regarding a potential appointment as minister. The Government completely respects the decision to give him the necessary space for reflection and will follow the institutional process once he communicates his position.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the current situation does not change the Government’s commitment to administrative continuity or the execution of its governing program. The Cabinet continues to fulfill its responsibilities, and the Government’s priorities remain focused on the well-being of the people of Aruba.
During his statement, the Prime Minister indicated that the Government also views the conclusion of the process as a moment of reflection for the country. According to Premier Eman, the case tested various institutional mechanisms, including the screening and evaluation process that forms part of the procedure for appointing public officials. As a country, we can learn lessons from this process. It has tested our institutions, and it is important that we continue to strengthen institutional procedures, always with respect for the rule of law and the guarantees that our legal system provides to every citizen.
Mike Eman highlighted that colleague De Meza is a person who for many years has prepared himself to shoulder governmental responsibilities and who, during the past period, continued to dedicate his attention to various issues of national importance, including infrastructure development, energy, and other strategic priorities for Aruba. “What is important today is that there is finally clarity. The Government looks forward and will follow the process with responsibility and respect for the personal decision that Mike de Meza must make,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
