MEP Party delivers Prof. Elzinga’s advisory report on the Rijkswet HOFA to the President of the Parliament of Aruba

Parlamentario Xiomara Maduro 2

Member of Parliament Xiomara Maduro, on behalf of the MEP Party, has presented the advisory report by Professor Elzinga on the proposed Rijkswet HOFA (Financial Supervision Kingdom Law) to the President of the Parliament of Aruba.

The document analyzes the impact of the proposed law on Aruba’s autonomy. According to Professor Elzinga, the Rijkswet HOFA restricts the budgetary right — the right of the Aruban Parliament to manage and approve its own budget — as well as the right of amendment, which allows Parliament to propose and approve changes to financial legislation concerning Aruba.

The professor warns that the Rijkswet HOFA would grant the Netherlands the power to approve or reject Aruba’s financial and legislative decisions, thereby diminishing the independence of Aruba’s Parliament. He also notes that the law is unnecessary, as Aruba already has a functioning system of financial supervision in place.

The MEP Party stresses that the advisory report clearly demonstrates that the Rijkswet HOFA undermines Aruba’s autonomy and weakens the democratic authority of its Parliament.

With the delivery of the report to the President of Parliament, all Members of Parliament now have access to this important document, and the Aruban people can expect a well-informed debate on the proposed Rijkswet HOFA.
