Parliamentarian: Mike de Meza expressed his deep concern over the way political power games are played and how civil servants (ambtenaren) are used in situations that are unacceptable. If a minister is indeed using a civil servant, Aruba cannot travel down such a path because it will break itself, and it is unacceptable.
The parliamentarian emphasizes that the time has come to be transparent with the people of Aruba and face the reality of these cases that affect personal integrity and are unacceptable.
According to De Meza, during the difficult moments he went through, he shared with his party colleagues that the situation was unacceptable. He points out that when a politician exerts power at the civil servant level, it results in a loss of trust in the institutions and departments that are extremely important for Aruba.
“We as politicians, parliamentarians, ministers, are the first called upon to take action to correct this and restore trust in the people,” De Meza emphasized.
The parliamentarian shared that this period was a “nightmare” for himself, his family, and his loved ones. He expressed that it took months to understand how departments and the abuse of power can back a person into a corner, leaving a major mark on the community.
Although the road was hard and cost money, gray hairs, and a lot of pain, De Meza remains firm that he is a clean person who has nothing to hide. He thanked the Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM), which at a certain point reconsidered and saw that the case had no basis, stating clearly that he bears no guilt.
De Meza concluded by saying that he remains alert against this type of action that casts doubt on integrity and individuals, affirming that it is time to stand strong and confront all forms of abuse of power in the community.
Additionally, to this day, Minister Geoffrey Wever has not been heard coming forward regarding such a massive case that falls under his management. In recent days, both Minister Gerlien Croes and Minister Geoffrey Wever have been hiding under rocks.
