Recent statements highlight concerns within the community regarding the consistency between campaign promises and the current actions of the AVP–FUTURO government.
According to Dangui Oduber on his Facebook page, during the campaign and government formation, Minister Gerlien Croes stated that no minister would request or use an official government vehicle as a measure to reduce public spending. However, Minister Croes herself recently posted and promoted a private company offering electric/hybrid cars. Notably, Minister Geoffrey Wever had previously introduced similar vehicles within Post Aruba, but to this day no public tender has been seen for this initiative. This raises the question: what exactly is happening here?
The situation has sparked strong reactions from citizens, who are questioning the consistency between what was promised and what is currently being implemented. The main concern centers on fiscal responsibility, proper use of public funds, and the need for a transparent public tender process to give all car companies in Aruba a fair opportunity.
Critics emphasize that transparency and adherence to political commitments are essential to maintaining public trust in government. The MEP faction is calling for clarity regarding the decisions taken and the reasoning behind the reported expenditures.
This issue forms part of a broader discussion about governance, accountability, and the management of public resources. It is considered important that ministers appear before Parliament and provide explanations to the people of Aruba regarding these decisions, which are perceived as lacking transparency.
