The Department of Public Health (DVG) is calling on all citizens to take immediate responsibility in reducing mosquito breeding sites on our island.
Investigations in neighborhoods across Aruba show that despite the continuous efforts of the GKMB section going door to door to educate and raise community awareness, many homes and locations are still being found with standing water or unnecessary water accumulation. Any place where water remains standing is a potential mosquito breeding site and a direct risk to your family and public health.
DVG emphasizes that eliminating standing water is the most urgent and effective step to break the mosquito reproduction cycle and reduce the number of adult mosquitoes flying around.
Looking at the regional situation, where cases of Chikungunya and Yellow Fever continue to increase in countries near us, the alert level must rise. Aruba is not excluded from this risk.
Additionally, DVG urges the community to know and recognize the symptoms of Chikungunya and Yellow Fever. If after traveling a person develops fever, severe body pain, headache, or other suspicious symptoms, they must seek medical attention immediately and inform healthcare providers about their travel history.
DVG stresses that prevention cannot be postponed. Protection of public health depends on the immediate action of every citizen.
Remove all standing water around you—take action today.
DVG continues to closely monitor the situation and will keep the community informed of any relevant developments. The GKMB section will conduct spraying in neighborhoods only in cases of confirmed mosquito-borne illness. Driving around and spraying as done in the past is neither responsible nor efficient and does not solve the real problem, which begins with unnecessary standing water.
