In the early hours of Wednesday, May 17, a 32-year-old man with the initials G.G.B. was arrested on the Kaya Mohicano in connection with violating the Opium Act BES, failing to comply with police demands and driving without a valid driver’s license and valid insurance. The suspect was spotted on the Kaya Korona when, with one headlight, he was speeding past the police car. The patrol pursued him and demanded that he be stopped by optical lights and sound signals. He ignored this and continued driving. He stopped at a residence on the Kaya Mohicano and was arrested. A strong cannabis smell was detected and the car was searched. This is a green substance similar to marijuana. On closer inspection, the suspect was unable to produce a valid driver’s license or valid insurance documents. For this, he was given a court report.

Theft scooter
On Tuesday, May 16th, a black scooter, branded Senzo Sports, plate MF-4385, was reported stolen. The scooter was parked, locked with a chain lock, in front of an apartment complex on Kaya Nikiboko North. Between Tuesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 10, the scooter was taken by unknown persons.

On Monday, May 15, a theft of a dark gray scooter of the Kymco brand, model Agility, number Mf-3059 was also reported. The scooter was parked in front of a house on the Kaya Sabana. Between Sunday, May 14th and Monday, May 15th, unknown persons took the scooter.

Both cases are under investigation.

Collision between car and scooter
Around 17:00 on Tuesday 16 May, a collision between a car and a scooter took place at the intersection of the Kaya Amsterdam and the Kaminda Djabou. For unknown reasons, the scooter and the car collided head-on. The scooter driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

Joint inspection of catering establishments
On Thursday 4 May, a check took place at a catering establishment on the Kaya Grandi and a second check took place on Wednesday 10 May at another location on the Kaya Brotherhood. The inspection was carried out in cooperation with the Supervision and Enforcement Department of the Public Body Bonaire (OLB), the Caribbean Netherlands Fire Brigade (BKCN) and the Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN).

This inspection was carried out by the various bodies to verify that the safety measures were being properly applied. BKCN checked, among other things, the fire extinguishers, emergency lighting and emergency exits and measured the spaces to check the maximum number of people allowed in. In addition, the owners were asked to apply certain safety measures. These checks will continue in the coming weeks at various catering establishments to ensure the safety of all.
