For Member of Parliament Eduard Pieters, the meeting of the Interparliamentary Kingdom Consultation (IPKO) represents his first official participation since assuming leadership of the PPA parliamentary faction. According to the MP, the first day of meetings took place in a constructive atmosphere, where each country had the opportunity to present its views and priorities within the framework of cooperation in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During the sessions, delegations not only addressed political matters but also shared information regarding current developments in their respective countries. Pieters indicated that, in addition to the official presentations, delegations received a briefing from the Royal Netherlands Navy and a presentation by CMO, which broadened perspectives on security matters and institutional cooperation.
The PPA faction maintains that IPKO must continue to serve as a platform to strengthen interparliamentary relations within the Kingdom. According to Pieters, the party firmly believes in the historical ties that unite the countries, but he emphasized that these relations must be based on mutual respect for the autonomy and individual interests of each country.
“The general interests must remain aligned in the same direction,” Pieters stated, noting that although small differences exist between the countries, these should not become obstacles but rather opportunities to support one another as sister islands within the same region.
PPA views the IPKO meetings as a means to send a clear message: the need to strengthen cooperation within the Kingdom based on dialogue and respect. According to the MP, the ultimate goal is the well-being and future of the population, as well as guaranteeing security across the islands.
At the local level, Pieters emphasized that PPA remains committed to the people of Aruba by promoting internal unity and collaboration between political and social sectors. “Aruba must remain the primary focus,” he expressed, adding that a united internal front does not exclude the broader responsibility of working together within the context of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
With these statements, the PPA faction positions itself as a defender of balanced unity: a stronger Aruba internally, while at the same time actively committed to cooperation within the Kingdom.
