On Saturday afternoon, another severe accident was recorded at the well-known intersection of Caya Juan Pablo Duarte. Although there were no serious injuries this time, the material damage was considerable, and the impact has once again sparked discussion regarding the safety of this intersection.
The incident took place during the course of the afternoon when two vehicles collided heavily. According to witnesses and preliminary data, the main cause remains the failure to yield right-of-way—a problem that repeatedly occurs at this location.
Regarding the impact, the crash was of such magnitude that both cars suffered extensive material damage. An ambulance and authorities arrived at the scene to evaluate the situation. Miraculously, it was confirmed that no one was seriously injured, which is a relief considering the state the vehicles were left in.
A high-risk intersection
This intersection is known for being a “black point” (a high-danger spot) in traffic, where accidents of this same nature are frequently reported. The recurring problem remains the confusion or irresponsibility of drivers when it comes to yielding.
Call to action for DOW: Residents and motorists who frequently travel through this area are voicing that the situation cannot continue like this. It is becoming urgent for the Department of Public Works (DOW) to conduct a thorough evaluation of this intersection. They are calling for a review of the signage, better right-of-way signs, or an infrastructural solution to clearly establish which motorists have the right-of-way, before a fatality occurs at this intersection.
