Following an information meeting with representatives of the UTV sector, Prime Minister Mike Eman confirmed that the Government has submitted an official request to the Court to pause the judicial proceedings. The objective of this step is to make way for constructive dialogue and to seek a balanced solution that protects both nature and the local economy.
The Prime Minister explained that the sector’s representatives presented a comprehensive and detailed explanation regarding their position. Based on this information, the Government deemed it paramount to keep communication lines open to reach fair agreements with all involved parties.
Guaranteeing Livelihoods and Environmental Protection
Prime Minister Eman emphasized that the main goal of these convenings is to find a balance where businesses and jobs can continue, without setting aside the commitment to protect the country’s natural resources.
“We want to guarantee both aspects: we must protect our nature, but we must also safeguard the livelihood of everyone involved in one way or another with these recreational activities,” the Prime Minister declared.
Status of the Access Road and Next Steps
During the meeting with the press and attendees, the Prime Minister clarified the current status of the access:
• Request to the Judge: The Government submitted an official letter asking the judge to postpone the court case to allow room for negotiations. The government of Aruba received approval, announcing in a statement that the court granted space to sit at the table and bring balance.
• Open Access: The Prime Minister confirmed that the road remains open while the consultation process is ongoing.
• Upcoming Communication: As soon as there is a response or decision from the Court regarding this request, the Government will immediately inform the sector and the public.
