The current situation in Aruba regarding the Rijkswet HOFA is not only receiving attention at the local level, but also internationally. According to union representatives, global organizations are closely following the political and institutional developments on the island, particularly decisions by the AVP-FUTURO government that are being described as undemocratic.
Public Services International (PSI), a global federation representing public sector workers, has turned its attention to Aruba. Through the TOPA union, which represents PSI locally, the organization has expressed concern over what it considers decisions that are not fully democratic.
Vilma Thijsen of TOPA stated that PSI supports unions in Aruba in their efforts to protect workers’ rights and maintain transparency in governance. The way the Rijkswet HOFA is being implemented and handled raises serious questions about democratic participation and the country’s autonomy.
The involvement of an international organization like PSI demonstrates that the situation in Aruba has gained broader attention, and that the actions of local unions are receiving support beyond the island’s borders.
