The Public Prosecutor’s Office has finalized the criminal case against M.E. de Meza and his wife. Both suspects accepted and paid a transaction, which prevents them from being criminally prosecuted. With the payment of the transaction, the case has been definitively closed.
De Meza and his wife were suspected of violating Article 68, first paragraph, subsection a, in conjunction with the second paragraph of the General Taxes Ordinance (Algemene landsverordening belastingen). According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2021, they repeatedly submitted incorrect and incomplete information in their income tax returns.
On June 10, 2026, the first Public Prosecutor’s Transaction (TOM) hearing took place in this case. During the hearing, the Public Prosecutor’s Office offered the suspects—starting from the standpoint that the case could be proven—the opportunity to avoid criminal prosecution through the payment of a sum of money. The suspects did not accept the offer at that time. Subsequently, both were summoned to appear before the Court of First Instance on August 24, 2026.
At the request of the suspects, a second transaction hearing took place on August 7, 2026. During this session, the Public Prosecutor’s Office set a lower amount as a condition to avoid criminal prosecution, taking into account the specific circumstances of the case and the individuals involved. The suspects accepted this offer and completed the payment on August 11, 2026.
With the payment of the transaction, the case is considered definitively concluded. Today, the prosecutor withdrew both summonses.
