Aruba requests technical assistance from the Netherlands to dismantle and clean the refinery grounds, and to create new development opportunities

Aruba

Aruba has requested technical assistance from the Kingdom of the Netherlands to dismantle, clean, and redevelop the refinery site in San Nicolas. This request is part of a broader effort to create new development opportunities on one of the island’s largest industrial properties.
As part of this initiative, the outgoing Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, paid a visit to Aruba before leaving office, following the recent elections in the Netherlands. During his visit, Aruba’s Prime Minister, Mike Eman, held a meeting with the Dutch Prime Minister, emphasizing that Aruba currently stands at a crucial moment in its development.
Eman explained that the refinery site in San Nicolas is ready for structural transformation, representing a major opportunity for sustainable development and economic diversification for the island. Aruba hopes that, with the technical support and collaboration of the Netherlands, the process of cleaning and repurposing the site can begin soon.
