Get to know GKMB: The team protecting Aruba against Mosquito-Borne Diseases

Group

Every day, a dedicated team of professionals works throughout the different neighborhoods of Aruba to protect our community. This is the team of the Yellow Fever Mosquito Control (Gele Koortsmuskietenbestrijding – GKMB), a department of the Department of Public Health (Directie Volksgezondheid – DVG).

GKMB is tasked with the control and management of mosquitoes in Aruba. Their work contributes directly to the prevention of diseases such as Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika, and Yellow Fever, which can be transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

To achieve this, GKMB personnel conduct inspections in neighborhoods, identify and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, provide information and advice to the community, and take preventive actions to reduce the mosquito population around homes and businesses.

Often, the community sees GKMB personnel walking through the neighborhood or visiting homes, but not everyone knows exactly what their function is. These visits are an essential part of the preventive work that helps keep Aruba safer and free from mosquito-borne diseases.

GKMB personnel are always easily recognizable. They wear cream-colored polo shirts with the official DVG logo and carry official identification during their work.

DVG encourages the community to get to know the GKMB team. In the coming weeks, more information regarding the intensive work of the GKMB team will be shared on the Facebook page of Directie Volksgezondheid DVG Aruba. The prevention of mosquito-borne diseases must be a shared effort between the Government and every citizen to benefit the entire community.

Through their daily labor, GKMB continues to work to protect Aruba.

Get to know GKMB so that together we can protect your family and all of Aruba.

Your Health, Our Priority.
