With each passing day, it becomes clearer that the AVP-FUTURO Government lacks the capacity to govern Aruba. They run from their responsibilities, fail to make timely decisions, blame others when things go wrong, and lose their heads as soon as public pressure increases.
Parliament is being avoided In the 2025–2026 parliamentary year, out of 29 requested public meetings, only 11 were convened. Out of 8 requested question hours, only 2 were called. In 3 out of every 4 cases, Parliament was not given the opportunity to question the Government. Ministers do not answer questions, and MPs have even had to resort to LAR (Administrative Law) to compel a minister responsible for 5 portfolios to provide information. A Government that is afraid of questions is afraid of accountability.
They do not make decisions The process to regulate the UTV and ATV sector began back in 2021. The current Government received the work, documents, and recommendations in hand. After more than a year, they have not completed the process, have presented no solutions, and are now looking for someone to blame. Governing is not pointing fingers at others. Governing is making decisions for the well-being of Aruba. Simply dumping a pile of rocks to block the path for everyone is not making a proper decision.
More than 500 days without a new LIM The Government criticized the previous administration, yet Budget 2027 is still based on the Ministerial Integration Law (LIM) left behind by the Wever-Croes Government. After more than 500 days, AVP-FUTURO has not submitted a new LIM. They talk about change and turning things around, but they govern with the very same instrument they criticized.
Funds are available to invest, but the Government fails to execute In 2025, AVP-FUTURO boasted that a record amount of Afl. 74 million was available for investment, yet only Afl. 30 million was executed: 40%. The issue isn’t just a lack of money. The issue is a lack of direction, capacity, and decision-making—points that the Minister of Finance refuses to investigate and resolve. The longer the Government delays execution, the more roads, schools, public buildings, and other facilities continue to deteriorate.
Hospital and AZV are under pressure This week, the Hospital warned that more funds are necessary, while the AZV health insurance fund faces growing pressure. Instead of presenting a clear plan to ensure medical care remains affordable and accessible, the Government only reacts when problems explode. Healthcare cannot be governed with improvisation; decisions must be taken.
They want to hand over more power to the Netherlands While AVP-FUTURO cannot execute its own budget and fails to strengthen Aruba’s internal controls, they want to convince the public that HOFA is the solution. They are willing to surrender part of Aruba’s financial autonomy because they themselves lack confidence in their ability to put their house in order. Only a Government that cannot govern seeks another to govern for it.
When confronted, they blame others If a questionable contract becomes public, they blame the opposition. If a process gets stuck, they blame the previous Government. If the public protests, they play the victim. If they have no answer, they attack the person asking the question.
Power comes with responsibility AVP-FUTURO asked for the responsibility to govern. They asked for the people’s vote. They promised to turn things around and bring new politics. Yet now they refuse to accept that power comes with responsibility. Aruba cannot continue to be governed with excuses, manipulation, and panic. We face serious challenges in healthcare, public finances, cost of living, nature, security, and the functioning of Parliament. These times demand firm leadership, transparency, and the ability to make decisions.
Who still believes in AVP-FUTURO? AVP-FUTURO wants to sell the public on the idea that winning an election is enough, but winning an election is not the same as being able to govern a country. The question every citizen must ask now is: After everything we have seen, are there still people who believe AVP-FUTURO can govern Aruba? Aruba needs no more excuses. Aruba needs a Government that can govern.
