In a festive and proud atmosphere, the Youth Parliament entered a new parliamentary year with the installation and swearing-in of several young people into various positions of responsibility, including parliamentarian, minister, and youth voice.
For the Faction Leader of the Aruban People’s Party (PPA), Eduard Pieters, this moment is considered a true cause for celebration for the country. According to Pieters, this space is fundamental because it is the cradle where the individuals who will carry Aruba into the future are being prepared.
Pieters emphasized that the impact of the Youth Parliament transcends the political sphere. The training the youth receive prepares them to assume decisive roles across
diverse sectors of society:
Leadership in organizations: Training to head sports, economic, and social organizations.
Business and executive sector: Preparation to step into management positions within companies and institutions across the country.
Defense of the homeland: Shaping conscious citizens prepared to defend Aruba and its development in the coming years.
One of the most notable moments of the ceremony was the youth’s oath of office, in which they pledged to safeguard universal human rights and children’s rights.
According to the PPA faction leader, this act serves as an example and reminder to Aruba’s own parliamentarians, who also swear to defend the Constitution and local laws. Along these same lines, the youth take on the commitment to be defenders of the law, the Constitution, and the Statute for the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Eduard Pieters concluded by expressing his honor at being present among the youth and extended warm congratulations to all the youth parliamentarians, ministers, and voices who assumed their new responsibilities for this parliamentary year.
