Future of the Refinery grounds One of the key steps will be a presentation delivered by the government-appointed committee tasked with analyzing the refinery land. In line with motions passed in Parliament—which stipulate not only decommissioning but also exploring alternative economic activities for the area—parliamentarians will evaluate diversification and potential uses for this industrial site.
Review of the LNT Law and the “Wever-Croes Norm” Marlon Sneek confirmed that the Minister of Finance will attend Parliament to gauge the sentiment and position of the people’s representatives regarding the Top Incomes Standardization Law (LNT). Introduced during the pandemic, this law established the “Wever-Croes norm” to cap and trim salaries within the public sector and state-owned companies (overheids-NV’s). This was also one of the conditions set by the Netherlands to receive COVID-19 financial assistance.
The primary objective for reviewing this law is to curb the brain drain. As Sneek explained, salary caps have caused Aruba to lose a significant number of qualified professionals, impairing the country’s ability to attract experts to lead and manage high-responsibility positions within state entities.
