Parlamento Di Aruba

The Parliament of Aruba (Staten van Aruba) convened a Public Meeting (Openbare Vergadering) today, November 4, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the parliamentary chamber. This session, which received unanimous backing from all parliamentary factions, addresses a topic of paramount historical and institutional significance for our country.

The request was submitted by the MEP faction

The official convocation (Notice No. 5 for the 2026–2027 parliamentary year) is based on a formal request submitted by the MEP party faction (via a letter dated October 28, 2026). The sole item on the agenda for this session is:

Princess Beatrix’s personal notes regarding Betico Croes: An in-depth analysis and discussion regarding the records made at that time by then-Princess Beatrix (now Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands) in relation to the Liberator of Aruba, Gilberto François “Betico” Croes.

Historical Significance and Parliamentary Unity

The fact that every faction gave its unanimous support for this meeting underscores the importance and patriotic value that the historical memory of Betico Croes holds for Aruba. This platform in Parliament provides representatives of the people with the opportunity to reflect on historical ties, our island’s political trajectory, and the documents that form an integral part of our national heritage.

There was no need to proceed to a second round of debate, as during the first round each parliamentary faction delivered a clear message demanding full clarity regarding these expressions. Through this debate, the Parliament of Aruba reaffirms its commitment to keeping alive the history and legacy of the leader who paved the way toward our Status Aparte, our history, and our autonomy. The Parliament of Aruba has demonstrated that it can unite when it comes to defending the interests of Aruba.
