Writer and historian, Mr. Adolf (Dufi) Kock, visited the library today to deliver his latest two publications, ‘Seccion historico di Aruba’ (Aruba’s Historical Section). This is dedicated to ‘our future generation’. He also presented ‘Mision di Marineronan Noruega’ (Mission of the Norwegian Sailors), dedicated to His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Juan Alfonso Boekhoudt.
Seccion historico di Aruba In this historical publication, Mr. Dufi Kock focuses on a wide variety of topics regarding the history of Aruba. The content is illustrated with many photographs (310 pages and 136 topics). Mr. Mauritsz de Kort, Governor of Curaçao, writes in the prologue: “With respect and a heart filled with gratitude, I present the historical work, ‘Seccion historico di Aruba’. This work is a testament to the spirit and cultural richness of our beloved island. After meticulous research and passionate storytelling, the author has made a valuable contribution to preserving the history of Aruba – a gift not only for us living today, but also for the generations to come.” Mr. Adolf ‘Dufi’ Kock was named the first ‘Savanetero’ champion for his neighborhood of Savaneta, as a historian and writer. The graphic design of the cover was done by visual artist Elvis Tromp and Dufi Kock. This publication will go to the National Collection at the Arubiana Department. It will also be available for public circulation in Oranjestad and the branch in San Nicolas. This publication is made possible thanks to the exclusive contribution and support of MetaCorp. The book is available at bookstores for 75 florins.
Mision di Marineronan Noruega The second book, “Mision di Marineronan Noruega” (27 pages), is an account focusing on the interesting role that the Norwegian Seamen’s Mission at Vuylestekestraat 23 in San Nicolas played while the Lago refinery was receiving thousands of Norwegian ships at its dock, including whalers. It was a place where sailors could enjoy their free time and communicate with their loved ones by mail. It is a work that not only reminds us of our past but also of the present, the future, and influences our identity as a people.
Adolf (Dufi) Kock, after working at LAGO for 35 years and in various hotels for 5 years, decided to retire in 1997 and dedicate his free time to community work and research into the history of Aruba, LAGO, and the Second World War. His goal is always to try to leave behind good and accurate documentation for our future generation.
