Eduard Pieters (PPA): We will continue to oversee the Government and protect our constitution in the new parliamentary year

Eduard Pieters Ppa Seguiremos Fiscalizando Al Gobierno Y Protegiendo Nuestra Constitucion En El Nuevo Ano Parlamentario

With the opening of the new 2026-2027 parliamentary year, the fraction leader of the Aruban People’s Party (PPA), Eduard Pieters, highlighted the significance of this day for the country’s democracy. The Member of Parliament reaffirmed his fraction’s commitment to maintaining strict oversight over the Government, always grounded in legitimate documentation and in defense of the nation’s laws.

With the re-election of the same President of Parliament, Marlon Sneek, and the appointment of Ms. Ruthleen Lindor as the new Vice President for this parliamentary period, the PPA is prepared to continue its duties of representation and oversight within the legislative body.

A Firm Commitment to Safeguard the Law and the People
Pieters emphasized that Parliament’s primary role is to serve as a protective shield for citizens and the constitutional order:

• Rigorous oversight: The PPA fraction will continue to evaluate the Government’s actions, relying solely on official and verified documents.

• Constitutional protection: Upholding the laws and safeguarding the general well-being of Aruba represent the responsibility and authority that the institution of Parliament carries on behalf of the people.

Among the plans for the upcoming parliamentary year, the PPA leader indicated that the fraction will focus heavily on the education sector and, particularly, on elderly care (ouderenzorg).

Pieters expressed his dissatisfaction with how committees functioned in the previous term, pointing out that the Standing Committee on Family and Senior Care held only a single meeting, with a total of merely three committee meetings called during the entire past parliamentary year. According to the MP, this proves that neither the parliamentary coalition nor the administration itself is giving our families and senior citizens the priority and attention they deserve.

For this new year, the PPA will step up pressure to ensure that committees meet more frequently, thereby enabling access to adequate and timely information:

“We need accurate and timely information so that when we debate budgets and laws crucial to Aruba’s development, we can make key decisions and vote in the best interest of the country,” Pieters declared.
The PPA fraction enters the new parliamentary year with the goal of demanding greater seriousness, focused attention on the most vulnerable social issues, and a true commitment to the democratic process.
