Commissioner Clark Abraham today released a series of internal documents, including memos from the Island Secretary and the Lieutenant Governor, to the Island Council and the community. These documents clearly confirm that he consistently and voluntarily recused himself from the deliberations and decision-making within the Executive Council (BC) regarding the purchase of the Zware Industrie plot in Santa Clara.
The internal review shows that the Executive Council discussed this agenda item six times—namely on March 5 and 12, June 4 and 11, and November 3 and 5, 2025. On each of these occasions, Commissioner Abraham invoked his right to recusal and did not participate in the discussions or decisions.
The reason for this self-recusal was the potential appearance of a conflict of interest due to his blood relation to the late owner of the property.
“My actions have, from day one, been fully in accordance with the principles of the integrity codes and the Rules of Procedure of the Executive Council. It is reassuring to me that the facts now confirm this conclusively, so that all doubt sown by unfounded allegations is eliminated,” said Commissionair Abraham.
Request for Independent Investigation
On November 10, 2025, Commissioner Abraham formally requested in writing that the Lieutenant Governor initiate an independent and thorough investigation into the entire process surrounding the Santa Clara purchase and the land issuance to ‘Zandmannetje.’
He welcomes the recent announcement of this investigation by the Lieutenant Governor and awaits the results with confidence.
Breach of Integrity and Legal Action
Commissioner Abraham expresses his disappointment with the tactics used by certain council members to damage his good name and reputation. He emphasizes that these actions not only amount to unfounded personal attacks but also violate the code of conduct and the gentle agreement that should guide behavior within the Island Council.
Against those who have spread false and harmful insinuations about his integrity, Commissioner Abraham has taken appropriate (legal) measures to protect his good name and his public office.
Commissioner Abraham calls for a return to administrative calm and a respectful political culture, with a focus on serving the general interest of Bonaire.
