Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado released a national statement declaring that Nicolás Maduro is now facing international justice for crimes committed against Venezuelans and citizens of other countries. According to the statement, the current situation follows Maduro’s refusal to accept a negotiated political exit, prompting action by the United States to enforce the rule of law.
Machado stated that the moment has arrived to restore Popular and National Sovereignty in Venezuela. Among the priorities outlined are restoring order, freeing political prisoners, rebuilding the country, and creating conditions for the return of Venezuelans living abroad.
In her statement, the opposition leader emphasized that Venezuelans have struggled for years to achieve democratic change and that recent developments are the result of sustained sacrifice. She referenced the election of Edmundo González Urrutia as Venezuela’s legitimate president, asserting that he should assume constitutional authority and be recognized as commander-in-chief of the National Armed Forces.
Machado further stated that the democratic movement is prepared to enforce its mandate and called on citizens to remain vigilant, organized, and active until a Democratic Transition is achieved. She stressed that the process requires the participation of all sectors of society.
The statement concluded with an appeal to Venezuelans both inside and outside the country, urging readiness, mobilization, and international engagement in the reconstruction of a “new Venezuela.” Machado ended her message by expressing confidence that Venezuela will ultimately become a free nation.
